Getting Ready

We're in countdown mode.  Three more weeks until we leave for Paris.  I've been reading lots of books on Paris, many provided by friends.  The Sweet Life in Paris tells the story of a San Francisco pastry chef, who moved to Paris 7 years ago.  He tells a funny story about how he realized he was becoming a Parisien, when he shaved and got dressed just to take the garbage downstairs to the poupelle.  Lots of tips on where to find the best chocolate and other goodies in Paris.  Also reading The Paris Wife by Paula McLain.  It tellsa fictionalized story of Hadley Richardson, Ernest Hemingway's first wife, whom he writes about in the Moveable Feast.  Ah, Paris in the 20s.  Also checking out Frommer's Paris Free and Dirt Cheap....first edition, and lots of great tips.  Finally, I enjoyed Edmund White's Le Flaneur (that will be us in a few weeks- wandering around the city).  I'm hoping to get an Ipad 2 before we leave, that I can use as an e-reader.  We wanted to set this blog up (to see that it works) before we go.  Next entry will be in Paris.  Allan has his running route mapped out already.  He'll report from Paris.
